The BMP workshop is the capstone to the three year Broadcast Meteorology Program. There are several objectives that we seek to accomplish with the workshop. The sessions that we will schedule will provide you with a wide variety of experience in hands-on weather analysis and forecasting, a review of the important concepts covered in the program (to assist with preparation for the Certificate exam), and we will present the latest information on more time sensitive material related to forecasting (such as new models). In addition, you will have the opportunity to discuss and critique broadcasting methods and graphics with broadcast meteorologists from across the United States and Canada, network with others in the business, meet everyone face to face, and of course, celebrate the completion of the program.
The workshop will informally begin with a social Sunday evening and then officially start Monday morning with sessions presented by MSU meteorology faculty and other individuals with specific forecasting and broadcasting skills. The workshop will conclude on Wednesday afternoon.
The workshop is treated like a conference. This means that students will register in advance for the workshop during the summer. BMP students are required to finish all seventeen (17) courses with grades of "C" or better, attend the summer workshop and pass the comprehensive exam before earning the certificate in Broadcast Meteorology.
