The Department of Biological Sciences at Mississippi State University offers the distance program, Master of Science in General Biology for secondary school teachers, also known as Teachers in Biology (TIB) Program. This program is designed for high school teachers and for those who combine biology with education such as ecology, microbiology, evolutionary biology, and biotechnology.
All courses in the 33-hour, two-year program are taught online, with the exception of the final 10-day capstone course, which will be held on the campus of Mississippi State University.
Successful completion of the program enables teachers from most states to obtain a higher certification or pay scale and/or an endorsement. Since each state has its own criteria for advancement and certification, please contact your state’s Department of Education to see how this program relates to their requirements.
