Application Process

For full admission to the MSIS program in the Mississippi State College of Business, students must complete the process for classified admission. The GMAT is required for all applicants.



Classified Admissions:

The following is a guideline designed to ensure that you complete all paperwork necessary for taking courses in the MSIS program at Mississippi State University as a classified student.  Please note specific instructions for International Students.  Also, specific questions regarding your application can be addressed to Kathy Griffin with the Office of Graduate Admissions.

______ 1. Complete the online Application for Admission which includes:

    Statement of Purpose-Provide two to three paragraphs on who you are, why you want your MSIS, and why you selected Mississippi State University's Distance MSIS program. You may even discuss your past academic performance, and what that says about your ability to succeed in a graduate level program.

    3 letters of recommendation-When completing your online application you will be asked for three names and email addresses of individuals you are using as references. Once you hit "submit" on the application these individuals will be sent an email from MSU which will provide a link to an online form for completing their recommendations.

    $60 application fee

Instructions regarding the statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, and payment of the application fee are found within the online application. If you did not submit your $60 payment during the online application process please contact the Office of the Graduate School at 662.325.7400 to do so.

The College of Business requires a minimum TOEFL score of 575 PBT or 233 CBT or 84 iBT or an IELTS score of 7.0.

______ 2. Take the GMAT and request that your score is sent to MSU.

______ 3. Request one official transcript from EVERY university or school you have previously attended. These should be sent to:

______ 4. Complete registration instructions after receiving your letter of acceptance.


______ 5. Order your textbooks through the MSU Bookstore.

Textbooks are usually available for ordering 2 weeks before classes begin.


______ 6. Download required software and update browser settings.


______ 7. Visit mycourses.msstate.edu and read the Student Resources.
